- Among Yakuza, pearling can symbolize prison time—each bead may represent a certain period served in prison or a significant act of loyalty or violence.
- It acts as a badge of honor, similar to tattoos, which are also common among Yakuza.
- Sexual Enhancement (Reported Reason):
- The beads are believed by some to increase sexual pleasure for their partners by creating added texture.
- However, there is no scientific consensus on its effectiveness or safety in this regard.
