genital beading
What Is Pearling?
Pearling involves the insertion of small beads (often made of pearls, plastic, or metal) beneath the skin of the penis. This is typically done by making small incisions and placing the beads under the skin. It is a form of body modification.
Why Do Some Japanese Men (Especially Yakuza) Do This?
- Symbolism and Ritual:
- Among Yakuza, pearling can symbolize prison time—each bead may represent a certain period served in prison or a significant act of loyalty or violence.
- It acts as a badge of honor, similar to tattoos, which are also common among Yakuza.
- Sexual Enhancement (Reported Reason):
- The beads are believed by some to increase sexual pleasure for their partners by creating added texture.
- However, there is no scientific consensus on its effectiveness or safety in this regard.
